Onan 5500 Start Button Blinking Red
Hi All,
1. This is my first post on this forum. This is my first Toy Hauler (former Open Range Owner), 2016 Fuzion 420. Anyhow, I've had a few issues since we purchased it in August 2016, but today I noticed the Start Switch is blinking! I have disabled the Battery Cut Off Switch in the Convenience Center, and the other Battery Cut Off Switch (located in the upper left corner of the Battery Compartment), which I discovered recently. Can anyone tell me how to solve this issue? I parked the unit after using it the weekend of 10/28/16, and when I tried to start it Saturday, I got nothing! I had to jump the generator off with the truck. Can anyone provide some insight?

Re: Onan 5500 Start Button Blinking Red
Welcome to the forum!
A blinking start light indicates a stored "trouble code" in your owners manual there should be directions on how to retrieve that code. I can't remember right now (late) if you quickly press the start button 3 or 5 times and then it will blink the code.

Re: Onan 5500 Start Button Blinking Red
Are you sure that the all 12 volt dc power is turned off with the battery disconnect switch? I have a Fuzion Impact 351 and the factory disconnect left a lot of stuff still on. So I added another deep cycle battery because I can and added my own disconnect switch that will for sure kill the trailer. It also lets me run one battery or the other or tie both in parallel. I shouldn't have any more of dead battery problems after all of that.

Re: Onan 5500 Start Button Blinking Red
First of all, thanks for responding. Well, I've checked everything I could possibly check. In my earlier post, I mentioned a Cut Off Switch in the upper left section of the battery compartment. I can tell you that switch will cut power to the Antenna Booster, and the Inverter that runs the Residential Fridge. Not sure what else it kills. I know BCM and DC (In Command system) is off. I'm going to fire everything back up and start shutting things down in sequence starting with the Cut Off Switch located in the Convenience Center.

Re: Onan 5500 Start Button Blinking Red
The Onan will blink the trouble code. Sometime a two digit number with a slight pause between the numbers. Report back with the code and we can help from there. If you don't have the owners manual Google is a great help also. I know this forum helped me greatly with my first Onan 6500 issue. Good luck and let us know.

Re: Onan 5500 Start Button Blinking Red
All,
Thanks again for all the input. I stopped off at the rig this morning and pulled the cover off the generator, and sure enough the light on the Start Switch was still blinking. So, I decided to start her up! On the DC panel it gave me the fault code, "Over Prime". Well, I had to press the button (on the DC) several times before it stopped popping up on the DC screen. I let the generator run for a few minutes and then shut it down. Activated all of the Battery Disconnect Switches (you'll see them in the attached photos) and shut everything down. Now the Start Switch remained a "solid red". So, I'm guessing I'll have to install another Battery Disconnect switch to totally kill power to the generator. You can see on my attachments where current Battery Disconnects are installed. Again, I appreciate all of the help. I've learned lots of info from this forum.

Re: Onan 5500 Start Button Blinking Red
The red key type disconnect in the third picture is exactly what my camper came with too. Complete and total joke. It doesn't really kill anything. Best way to have dead batteries is to trust that hunk of junk. On your second picture I see the grey switch with red handle disconnect. I put one of those on my first travel trailer and it worked great. It should kill all of your positive 12 volt power if all loads are ran through that switch. I do not believe you need a 3rd disconnect switch. That big gray one just needs to be hooked up better to serve your needs and be a true "kill" switch disconnect.

Re: Onan 5500 Start Button Blinking Red
If the button is solid red the gen is priming. I have the same issue when I use the battery disconnect. The gen is not run correctly thru the battery disconnect and the DC. You can either disconnect the pos battery cable or disconnect the gen wiring. Remove the cover on the genset and on the left side by the on board start/prime switch you can unplug the connector during storage.

onan 5500.... nothing but trouble when hot out. we have new fuzion 369 toyhauler. I am convinced it is possessed and I would never purchase another Keystone product. Now, after speaking with the Cummins Tech, I learn that the placement of the generator and no really good "fresh" air, it overheats very easily. So much for trying to dry camp with our toyhauler. It just gets better every day.

I'd have to ask, are you just complaining about Keystone or are you, in some "veiled way" looking for help?

Then you're in the right spot. We're kind of like a 12 step program for wayward Rvers.

Nobody here can help with the gripes, but it seems the help is already being offered. Good luck with your issues.

What's that old saying: You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.... so, yep, that might have worked better......
That works with people who read your comments/gripes about a trailer brand that they also own as well as it works with insects. Realistically, you "bitched out Keystone" on a forum that's not monitored by Keystone or any of its employees and tried to insult a long time forum member by accusing him of "working for Keystone. The only people who frequent this forum are typically Keystone owners. Telling them that their trailer is junk because you have problems just isn't a great way to "win friends and influence people".....
That said, over 90% of the respondents to a survey (we need to do it again) responded that they were happy with their Keystone and would buy another.
