Alpine full paint option?
Didn't Alpine used to offer a full paint option?
I don't see it on their website. Anyone know if it's still offered?

The website doesn't address it but the full body paint option is still listed in the 2018 brochure. Optional colors are "Midnight Merlot", "Arctic Sky" or "Malibu Sand". You can download the brochure from the website at: http://www.keystonerv.com/media/3158..._nov16_web.pdf
You can also call Keystone Customer Service to be sure things haven't changed since the brochure was published.

Thanks John. We're a ways out from a decision.
I'm pretty sure I would hate to pay for the full paint option but I think, hope, it would reduce exterior maintenance.
DW says I'm too particular.
I need a barn or carport.

Just a heads up about alpine and montanas. The front wall comes apart on several fifth wheels. Not sure how to tell upon delivery but just be aware and ask your dealer if they can find out if the problem has been fixed.

Based on a couple of posts several months ago, it looked like that vertical seam at the forward corner of the slide was the "fix" for the cracked FILON. Apparently, from the picture posted, cracked skin happens even with the "fix"... Now I'm wondering if Keystone has a handle on this problem or if they're still looking for the solution.

Yes that crack or relief was factory.
The took the front cap off and filled the beams with wood and ran bolts up into the wood for strength. That was the fix.
I got it home the first time and it broke again. So they came and got it. They ran more bolts in. I went and got it and it busted the filon on the way home.
So i still have the same movement now that i had before except now i have busted filon too.

What year and model is the Alpine you are having the trouble with? The picture looks a lot like the 2017 3301GR I have.

Ive spoke with there service department up at the factory and the manager over my case and they dont know what is broke. They want to get it back and open everything back up.
The couple of people i have spoke with has had the joints rewelded in the wall and new filon put back on.
The factory seams to think the wall welds have seperated.
But i have alot more flex in the pinbox than ive ever had on any of my other fifth wheels so im not sure if somethings broke up there or not.
Im sure they will get it fixed and im kinda glad it broke so it can be fixed right instead of 3 years from now and worrying all along.
We left forest river cause of there junk but once keystone fixes this problem the rest is great and id buy another one tomorrow!

A 2017.
As long as they have been building 5th wheels you would think they would have figured it out by now. Any puddinhead can see that is a stress point, just like a 90degree in a foundation. Jeez we have run a high dollar Finite Element Analysis on just a hunch for the CYA. They keep trying to cut corners on weight and assembly time and this is what they get. Incredible. Sometimes mass is the only answer.

Yep. I put the blame on the frame. I know lippert makes them but keystone specs them.
They can use a little thicker steal or better grade and have alot let flex.
But thats another topic.

There's nothing inherently wrong with flex, but the rest of the vehicle has to be designed with that in mind. Like a bridge or skyscraper that moves, but we all know a filon exterior wouldn't like that. Seems the easier route is a heavier frame with less flex. That being more aluminum welded into the overhang and/or a heavier I beam main frame.
I don't have a piece paper saying I'm a structural engineer or metallurgist. But I'm pretty sure there were several in the cube farm with me.

When they cut the slideouts in the main wall i believe it weakens the wall where most of the strenght should be.

Unwritten fundamentals of engineering:
Design up from the failure point, or design down to the failure point.
