For best results the handle should point north. The Tailgater will find and lock on the the satellites faster. The three satellites are orbital locations 110, 119, and 129. 129 sets pretty low on the horizon from some locations and makes it difficult to lock in at times.

There is a new Tailgater called Tailgater 4 or Tailgater 61.5. It allows you to choose between 110, 119, 129 or 61.5, 110, and 119. 61.5 is considered part of the Eastern Arc and has the same programing as 129 and sits a little higher in the sky and gives you a choice in the menu of the Walley. The Wally is required to get access to 61.5. Winegard also has the Playmaker 2 which supports 129 and 61.5. If you have the older Playmaker 2 you can go to Winegards website and download the new firmware, put it on a USB drive and update the Playmaker 2 to access 61.5.

Do you have to do that with all the dome type nonmotion roof mounts?

Good deal; now that makes sense! I personally would also have a tripod as a picnic table or other way to get it off the ground in the event of a lot of rain seems like a dandy idea. I am not thrilled with the tripod since it relies on the rubber feet to sit in cut outs and then you turn them a bit to secure the thing. Not real positive but it does work. I carry a gallon water jug filled about 3/4 with gravel and hang it with a bungee connected to the base of the tripod to keep it fairly secure from wind. They give you a stake to put in the ground but in my part of the world, that just ain't happening most of the time.

I think the mount on the roof makes a lot more sense but they should have put a crank like the OTA antenna where you could rotate it without climbing the ladder. At my age, the ladder isn't my favorite activity.

Gary, If I understand, the less expensive portable dishes have to face pretty much to the south. If you have a roof mount, that means either parking the right direction based on the way the dish was already pointed or going up and physically turning the dish to point south and re-fasten to the fixed mount.

I used to carry a 10 lb weight from a barbell set my son's used to have, hung it with a bungee cord, when I used the tripod before.

If you have Dish at home and have the Hopper, I highly recommend just getting a portable 1000.2 dish and a tripod and taking the Hopper with you. That way you have all of the recordings you made at home, get 16 tuners and don't have to worry about when trees are blocking the roof of the RV. With the right meter and app, it takes less than 5 mins to set up and point.
