We LOVE KOA. We've been members for too many years to say. We took a vast trip in the fall, and we mostly stayed at KOA's because we didn't know the East Coast area at all and wanted something safe, consistent and clean. Sure, some have their faults, but it's like visiting an old friend.

Our very favorites on our most recent trip were (all 5s) - NIAGRA FALLS NORTH/LEWISTON, NY - perfect location and right near the Falls and other attractions; 1000 ISLANDS/ASSOCIATION ISLAND, NY - right on Lake Ontario - huge, lovely; QUECHEE, VT - stayed for several days - beautiful; FREEPORT/DURHAM, ME - campsites on the perimeter, all the way around with grass (where we chose to be), large pad sites in the center, and large common area, huge dog run - all very spacious; MYRTLE BEACH, SC - nice large sites, easy walk to the beach; CHARLESTON, SC - used to be a plantation. Has beautiful walking trails and a very large dog park with a swimming park area fenced off in case your doggie needs a dip in the lake).

CRESCENT CITY/REDWOODS CA; CARLSBAD, NM; SANTA FE, NM; DURANGO, CO; CORTEZ, CO; WILLIAMS/CIRCLE PINES, AZ; CANNON CITY/BRYCE, UT; SALT LAKE CITY, UT (all 5s)...we've stayed at so many that we like and too many to remember (45 years of camping as a couple). Compared to a hotel, they're pretty cheap (and even cheaper here in the west). Yes, we love national park campgrounds, state park campgrounds, boondocking in the mountains; but when it's appropriate, you just can't beat KOA, especially when on a road trip.
Koko, I'll let you know how it is. We've got reservations for 3 nights for this weekend at the San Diego KOA . Our longest trip so far has been around the 500 mile mark round trip. This trip is 780 mi one-way.
