If it's the slide out bumper like my 2013 280RLS, it is only rated at 200 pounds. It really does not take much before you hit that limit. When it's extended, there is significant play in the system that allows it to bounce which allows the weight to gain momentum. I removed the spare when I mounted the bikes because it clearly put me over the max weight on the bumper!
