Old post I know, but have been away for a while and browsing.
I screwed some light chain to the aluminum frame on the top of my pass thru storage and slide the bars in that, the key to keeping everything clean though is I have some old, small canvas bags with drawstrings and they fit just right over the greased ends. Some kind of rubber or vinyl sleeve or sock would work the same.
