I've added a T to my 30lb bottle with a 20-25' hose made by a propane dealer, I place my Weber grill just about anywhere I choose & no worries of blowing anything up.
Personally I worked operation/maintanence on a LP pipeline the last 15 years before retirement, if the bottles say "nonrefillable" throw them away. Just because you've done it for years doesn't make it any safer, actually every time you refill that nonreuseable 1lb bottle you've just improved your odds to an accident.
And there's no way I'm putting one of those used bottles in my freezer & risk contaminating a freezer full of food for a $3-5 bottle of propane.
