I use them and retract them when leaving or if in heavy winds. In 1990 I used Dads motorhome at an air show as a rest place for us cops working there. Had the awning out for shade. I was there when the A-10 pilot walked over and advised pulling it in as he was parked about 75 yds straight out from the side of the MH. I removed the plastic chairs/tables food etc. He started the engines and it was to late. The awning could not be retracted. I thought it was going to be destroyed but it did not even rip. The whole MH was rocking like in a windstorm. The awning on the current TT I have would have ripped and maybe broke.
