Last year when we went from Knoxville to Murfreesboro google routed us down all these little roads with almost no shoulder and very large ditches. Not a fun haul.
I have switched to Waze. Much more options and if you have Android Auto you can switch between google maps and Waze.
Plus I always look at a map.
