We have one member who had the same engine in a Jeep SUV. If I remember correctly, his engine either cracked a piston or blew a cylinder wall and was replaced under warranty. It messed up their plans to tow to Alaska, but they did make the trip the following year with that same Jeep as their tow vehicle. There's some comments from him on the forum about how "good the Jeep towed and how strong the diesel performed".
No comments from me about the performance of the truck/engine, but depending on the size of the trailer you're planning to tow, remember that the diesel weighs significantly more than a similar size gasoline engine, so payload comparisons will put the diesel powered truck lower in capability than the gas truck in weight carrying ability.
