When you do "finally need to cut", remember these two rules:

1. Remove the "screwed on cover" and cut about 3" inside that cover.
2. ALWAYS cut the two sides and REAR of the cutout, making a flap with the "hinge" toward the front of the trailer.

That way, you can use Gorilla tape (or an alternative) to reseal the "trap door" that you created and then reinstall the cover and then seal it with more Gorilla tape. Doing it this way will give you a "double the protection" when towing in rail or on muddy roads.....
