First, congratulations on your new Cougar!

Call the dealer and ask them what the coupler height is, then you can install the hitch head at the right height. It’ll need to be completely set up anyways before you leave their lot with your new Cougar so don’t worry about getting it exactly right now but I would recommend that you get the ball installed on the hitch head now and torqued to the specified 430 ft-lbs. before you head to the dealer. You may need to take it to a shop to get the ball torqued to spec.

Dealers are notorious for doing a poor job setting up WDHs but even if they know what they’re doing, you’ll need to re-do the setup after you’ve loaded all your stuff in the TT. Typically, that stuff will weigh 700 - 1000#. So my advice is to get the installation instructions and familiarize yourself with how to set up your Equal-i-zer hitch (there are lots of videos on YouTube). If the dealer installs it, watch them do the setup. Make sure they place the L brackets where they’re supposed to be - 27” to 32” from the coupler. Also make sure they don’t over-torque the bolts on the L brackets (I’ve had 2 different dealers do that and they bent the vertical part of the L brackets). Take your own torque wrench and verify the torque on all the bolts before you hook up. If your torque wrench doesn’t go to 320 ft-lbs (the torque required for the shank bolts) remember that torque is just length times distance so if you have a breaker bar you can put it on the shank bolts and use an extension pipe and stand on the extension pipe the right distance from the bolt head. I used a short piece of steel pipe as an extender.

Enjoy your new TT!
