If your roof is not a walkable roof, there will be a little bit of flex of the roof between the joists (they're not really trusses). They are likely 16" on center or 24" on center. That may vary based on the location of roof vents and the air conditioner, but it will generally hold true.
You pretty much expect that there will be a joist at each roof vent and several at the air conditioner.
Also, your ceiling material inside will be stapled to the joists and the staples then covered with a bit of white filler. If you look carefully, you can spot them.
