Three years ago we towed over 14 after spending a couple weeks in Hill City, Ellsworth, Wall and Rapid City. After 2 days in Sturgis, we landed in Sundance for a couple days, did the Vore Buffalo Jump, Devil's Tower and enjoyed some very good food in some of the "out of the way stops" while riding the back roads from Devil's Tower back to St Onge.

If you decide to "brave the hardest of the two" (14) the scenery is awesome. We towed 16 the following summer (2 years ago) and while it's a slightly easier tow, the scenery just doesn't justify avoiding 14. If it were me, I'd take 14 through the passes, plan an all day venture and stop at every "scenic turnout" with your camera in hand. Just remember, if you climb a pass in second gear, leave it in second for the downhill run, your brakes will thank you at the bottom......

I have not towed 14A, so I can't give you any information on that route.
