I don't live in the UP of Michigan(like camping in it though) but do get sub zero cold and snow.

Outside of normal winterizing I cover our unit year round because of oak trees over the top of it shedding leaves, twigs, and acorns. The driveway is gravel but I park the tires on treated plywood to keep the wheels on something that stays drier. Never had trouble with snow on the roof or cover. Sometimes it melts off between snowfalls but not always.

My nieghbor doesn't cover his and it works out fine too. Just faded bad and stained from tree debris over the years. He raked the roof one winter and come spring found he had broke some plumbing vent caps and roof vents.
