Normally I would say buy a roku stick or a firetv stick, but i feel like the OP has some shows downloaded to the ipad to watch when wanted, which would not require wifi, except for when first downloading. That said I'd try the hdmi adapter over a chromecast. I have a chromecast and it has been so laggy and frequently disconnects, that it now resides in a drawer somewhere.
