As a former campground host, I've dropped many a corner to let the accumulation off and I've seen several times where neither I nor anyone else caught it in time and the result was expensive. Do him a favor and either drop the corner for him or wake him up. When he realizes what you've done he'll appreciate it. In many years, nobody ever criticized me for saving their awning!
