All of the replies above are spot on. The first year I retired we did a 5 week fall Western States loop, the second year we did a 7 week fall loop and made as far east as Mount Rushmore.
One week just does not cut it for multiple states!
Why not ask the kids what they would like to do for a week? Their answer might be quite different than what you are thinking about.
