To my old eyes it looks like the ubolts on the curb side are tipped forward and the ubolts on the driver side are vertical. Not sure if this would account for the height difference, just an observation.
Edit
After reading one of your posts again, I realized that you spotted that the axle appears twisted back on the curb side. Which would explain the ubolts being tipped forward.
