Same thing happened to me. I had gone to bed early that night. I'm a light sleeper so everytime the AC cycles it can/does wake me up. This is why I usually switch the fan to ON instead of AUTO when I go to bed to lessen the cycling noise. This particular night I forgot to set the fan to on. I kept tossing and turning constanly being awakened by the cycling of the AC, every five minutes. I kept thinking, why is it doing that? I never did wake up enough to go check things out.
I finally got up in the morning and found that someone had turned one of the vents so that it was blowing directly on the thermostat.
I was so glad that it was something simple.
