The same "option weight" issue is present in all three of the heavy duty lines. Ford, GM and Chrysler all "impose" the 10K GVW limit on 3/4 ton trucks and offer "heavy option packages" in the luxury models. With Ford, it starts with the Lariat and continues through the King Ranch to the Platinum. GM and RAM are the same. I've seen some 9900 pound GVW Ford F250 Platinum models with 1700 pound payload stickers. Shocking? Not really, when you consider there's 400-600 pounds of "optional luxury" in the form of heated/cooled leather seats, heated leather steering wheel, self deploying running boards, chrome placards on the tail gate, etc... The price of all that "stuff" is felt two places, in the wallet and in the payload.....
