Diesel Use and Oil Changes

Last year I put 2K miles on my diesel. If I went my miles alone, it would be a long time to get to 5K or 7.5K miles before changing the oil. Is once per year adequate enough with low miles?

Did you have to drill any holes into the frame? From what I saw, I need to drill three holes on each side to install. Something must be wrong if this is a no drilling system.
