I just leave my hitch attached and hanging from the trailer. No muss no fuss. Takes about 10 minutes to put it back in. Why make it hard on yourself?

Every trailer I have ever owned has had the axles out of alignment. The guys that weld these frames together are paid by the hour. I have not checked my Cougar yet but I'm sure it will need some work...

It's the standard key-lock tumbler in the plastic handle/latch on a compartment door. Mine have what looks to be 2 over-lapping "O"'s on each latch. I don't know how to post a picture. Chino
