There is a one - way check valve that should isolate the water tank when you turn the bypass on. Perhaps it is not seating. It is in the piping near the tank.

Can't respond to the bug pits but if you do an internet search on those cab mounted wind deflectors you will find some actually have a negative effect on fuel economy and air dam effect. JMO

Not the preferred method to winterize. Normally antifreeze is introduced into the system through the water pump. JMO
