Just received my recall notice on the bumper of our Cougar 26SAB 5th Wheel. Will be interesting to see how "kit" fixes the problem.

I would like to know how they repair it.Do you have a slide out bumper with a bike rack on it? I have a 318SAB that is being repaired right now. IT seems funny that nobody a Keystone knows anything about bad bumpers on any of there products.:banghead:

We do not have the slide out bumper. The service manager indicated that it was his "impression" that they would cut the bumper off then weld on a section of angle iron and then weld the bumper to that - however they have not done any yet. They have ordered the "kit" so once that comes in I should know what the fix actually consists of.

My bumper has not failed but will post a picture of the fix once it is completed.

I just spent a few minutes prowling Keystone's Customer Service pages on their website and I don't find any recalls listed for bumpers on any newer Cougar models. I also checked some of the more common brands like Passport, Outback, and Montana.

The only recall I did find was on the 2008-2010 Cougars for the weak rear bumper. But yours is a 2011.

Would you mind sharing a copy of your recall letter with us? I am concerned to see if my trailer is included in the recall.

Apparently it's a limited recall on only the 26SAB and 29RES models. Recall began on September 28, 2012; Potential Number of Units Affected: 1,012

I just received my recall letter as well. Cougar 5th wheel XLite 26SAB. I am off to the Keystone authorized dealer/repair shop tomorrow. When I called for the appointment the service dept couldn't find the recall letter! I'll let check back in to let you know what happens.

SaabDoc,
It's nice to know that someone else is old enough to use "cool beans"!

Steve -
My recall notice is consistent with the info in the link posted by KanTC.

Safety Recall: 12V-355
Safety Advisory: 12-178

The opening paragraph reads:
Keystone RV Company has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain model 2010 - 2012 Cougar Models 26SAB & 29RES Fifth Wheels......

I took a look at the welds and sure enough they were coming apart.
Took it to a keystone dealer (camper world) in Savannah Ga and they fixed it with supports. However, they didn't get approval from Keystone for 4 hours and it took more than an hour to fix it. So! took 6 hours to fix it.
Seems to be a problem at Keystone approving the fix. Shouldn't take 4 hours to get a simple ok on the recall.
Keystone better get their act together.:banghead:

I've heard this comment on other forums, as well. Can you explain? How old is "old enough"? I know "cool", but not "cool beans"
