Thought it would be interesting to see photos of various members favorite campsite locations and any descriptions of conditions, costs, availability, recommendations, etc.

Starting off, this is the location of our maiden voyage with our 2008 Cougar 278 about a week after we picked it up.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-PYbY-lbij3k/T7Wqajb4vUI/AAAAAAAAA4Q/N_cVF2YkLHQ/s512/SFOY8613-PS800.jpg

Location is about 2 miles off the highway on the East side of Lake Koocanusa in NW Montana. No campsite fees but does have fire-rings, picnic tables and a public outhouse. (which is more than we usually have with our campsites) No power or septic facilities. It is a nice spot that can accommodate around a dozen campers, with a large open field where another dozen or so could set up. As for availability, this was only the second time we camped there. The first time we had a group of 3 campers and only had one other camper show up, on our last trip we did not see one vehicle the entire weekend until about 5 minutes before we were headed out.

Recommend this spot for those that enjoy drycamping, the stream (just barely viewable behind the trees on the left side) runs strong during spring run-off but dwindles down to almost nothing by the end of June. There are a number of spots like this along the lake, just have to get off the main highway a bit to hunt them down.

Lots of great looking campsites here and in your photo gallery. Are all the Fla sites located on salt-water, or are any on fresh water lakes?

In the picture for Silver Glenn Springs -- looks like some "RV" boats in the background there. :)

That salt water is most likely 70 to 80 degrees!

I would say any one of those pictures is a great reason to skip work! Dang work is what makes it so we can afford our toys, it is a viscous circle!

fla-gypsy those are some great pictures!

Another favorite camping spot, East side of Hungry Horse Reservoir (just south of Glacier National Park). No hookups or picnic tables, but it is normally very quiet. Think we have only had one weekend out of the last 6 years that we could not find a spot to pull in to and set up camp due to all the spots being filled... and even with that we just drove around to the other side of the reservoir and found another spot.

Highly recommended if you are traveling through the area and don't mind dry camping. There are 3 or 4 'campgrounds' with normal National Forest fees (I think it somewhere around $10/night). Just follow the signs in Hungry Horse that head you south. Limited asphalt, only the first 4 miles on the East side and first 12 miles on the West side. If you want to travel all the way around the reservoir, it is gravel roads that are fairly well maintained, full round trip is right around 110 miles.

Above picture was taken from the shore just beyond our old camper -- can't wait to get the new Cougar down in there (be another couple weeks for the snow to 'get gone').

StanMT,
Those photos sure make me want to hurry up retirement (Kay) Jim is already retired, darn. Last year we made it to Glacier but instead of coming, as planned, in June, we had to put it off until July due to the Going to the Sun Road still be closed due to so much snow. Want to do it again but not sure when, will let you know to get the coffee going before we get there. We had lunch at the Hungry Horse Cafe when we were there last year and stayed at the Columbia Falls RV Park. Awesome country!!!!!

Coffee is pretty much on all the time in our camp, so stopping by any time is absolutely no problem :)

For our second outing with the new (used) camper on Memorial day weekend, we traveled a short distance to the Seeley/Swan Valley (About 60 miles south of Glacier National Park). Found a nice small clearing about 5 miles off the highway large enough for our small group, we got there early so I got this picture of where we set up.

Plenty of wild game around for the weekend, deer were pretty upset with us for camping in their clearing from the way they were acting and 'huffing' through the night. Guess they gave up when we didn't leave and ended up feeding about 6 feet away from the slide-out window -- not long enough for me to get the camera out though. :(

Had a great 4 day outing with the camper, with Sunday being a full day of moderate to hard rain, which gave us the opportunity to check for any leaks, especially around the slide-out... all checked out great. The twin 6-volt batteries worked great, never got that kind of longevity in our older camper with the two 12 volt batteries.

I'm sure others have camping pictures to add to the thread. :) Post 'em up, never know when we might be in your neck of the woods looking for a place to set up.

Been playing on the computer, thought I would drop a comparison in here for opinions, any preference? Images don't show the window detail clearly, but around the window it will be vinyl wrap -- and windowscape material on the windows themselves.

StanMT, Howdy;

Kinda favor the daylight one, looks like a nice place to do some fishin' ...

The other does as well, just have more time to enjoy the daylight one ...

from a fishin' point of view ...

I agree with Hankaye. After all, Montana is the "Blue Sky" state. Besides, the blue matches the license plate.... Now if you move to New Mexico....... <VEG>

Thanks for the input folks, appears to be a toss-up as to preference. I'll be playing around with a few more scenic photos, once one is decided on the son will print up the vinyl wrap and windowscape and we'll get it put on. Will get some additional pictures after it is finished.

Thanks again.

Another spot along Hungry Horse Reservoir (Northwest Montana). This is at the Canyon Creek boat launch site. Dry camping in a small open area just past the boat launch ramp. This was out last outing for the year, got in a bit of hunting and we were the only ones in the area for a 3 day weekend.

So sad now, camper is wrapped up for the winter. So long until spring.....
