View Full Version : Did you name your RV?

Jim & Kay

Are we the only campers that have named their RV? Don't know if this is something others do but our Cougar HC 5er's "pet" name is "Route 66 Bed & Breakfast" Just curious to hear some of the other pet names out there. Chime in and let others know your RV's name.

We've called our RV "Our Outhouse" Since the Jayco. Back then we even put a "moon shaped logo" on the door, but that's kinda gone now, but not the name in white on the black back bumper. Been there in 3" letters on every RV since 1972.

03-31-2012, 06:22 PM
Having been sailors for 25 years (sold the last in 2006) we always named our boats. When we got the first boat the kids helped settle on the name "Klose Quarters". We had 3 boats over the years the last one was Klose Quarters 3. So when we bought the 5th wheel last year it was pretty much a no brainer that our "land yacht" would be Klose Quarters 4.

Maybe it's the latent sailor in me but I can't imagine not naming the RV, even it it doesn't float!

Being that our property out in Pennsylvania tends to be a cut through for black bears and I had just retired from the fire service prior to our buying the 2011 Retreat my beloved wife to be bought a mahogany plaque with the name "Bearly Retired" with a Maltese Cross on it and the name has since stuck. :)

I thought our 250RS looked so huge compared to the hybrid we had before...hence the name "GIGANTOR" after actor Owen Wilson's reference to Ben Stiller's character in "Night at the Museum".

As an ex boater and having my pilots licence to fly I called our boat Flybouy, I haven't come up with a name for the tt yet but was thinking one of my favorite movies is Christmas Vacation so I was thinking of naming it Arvy after my second favorite line in the movie by cousin Eddie "That there is an RV" most favorite line is "$hitter$ full" but the DW won't let me put that on the back but I think it most apley describes it on the trip home!

Since we travel with the three furbags (see signature), and we "moved up" from tents to RVs to better accomodate them; "The Cat House" :rofl:

And...yes I'm from Southern Stock and am well aware of what a cathouse is :bdance:

Even though the wife likes the name (she's the one that named our first trailer with that monicker), I haven't been able to talk her into having it painted on the back...:confused:

With three cats, I sometimes wonder if it shouldn't be named the "Litter Box" :thumbsup: Seems like I spend the better part of our travels keeping the box in the truck and the box in the trailer "scooped".

We kept a cruiser (28 ft boat) and had it at a dock at Buckeye lake for years. We always went there on the weekends. We sold it and now have the RV. We keep saying lets get this or lets get the boat. We are in such a habit of saying boat over the years we decided to name the RV (The Boat).

Darling Wife, Dear Wife or the Hoover Dam type (anything that starts with a "D", you can use your imagination... Same with D**** Husband :)

SIL=Sister-in-Law
BIL=Brother-in-Law
FIL=Father-in-Law
MIL=Mother-in-Law
You get the drift...

TH=Toy Hauler
5er= Fith Wheel
TT=Travel Trailer
PU=Pop Up or Pick-up
MH=Motor Home
DP=Diesel Pusher

BTW=By The Way
IMO=In My Opinion
IMHO=In My Humble/Honest Opinion
FWIW=For What Its Worth
WAG=Wild {rear end} Guess

They go on and on... You can usually figure out a lot of them by the context in which they show up... This site has most of them listed: http://www.seeya-downtheroad.com/InformationPage/Acronyms.html

Johnny -
Your "Dear Wife" is often referred to as DW and you could be called the Dear Husband of your Dear Wife - or DH. While these are the common shortcuts - abbreviations - you can be as imaginative as you want to be - depending upon how "dear" you are to each other.

Our first trip in the new TT with the kids was to the local Yogi Bear. Close to home and lots for the kids to do while mom and dad try everything out. All they had were statues of Yogi. The kids kept asking "where's BooBoo?" So I bought a small stuffed BooBoo at the gift shop and put it in the TT. We lovingly refer to the trailer as BooBoo now. I put the little guy up on the top of one of the windows and although I have not attached it with anything it has stayed through a couple of 100 mile trips.

We've named ours 'BB', it stands for bear bait. When we were driving it up from Haines through Canada, we stopped along the road to take some pictures of the bears. On two seperate occasions, bears came up along side the camper and started sniffing the side marker lights. One got a little to close and stuck his head in the window of my F250, so, yeah, his paws were up on the window sill looking into the cab of the truck (we moved to the other side of the truck, forgot to roll up the window, duh). I got a great picture of it, need to figure out how to get it on here.

Our first pop-up was the "Altmar Hotel" (if you're from central NY you might get it). The second was the "Taj-ma-small". Haven't taken possession of the newest one, so... no name yet.

I am kinda torn between three different terms of defiance that we get from our 13 year old:

WHAAAAATTTT??

REEAAALLYY??

And last, but not least,

YOU'RE NOT MY BOSS!!!!!

Probably wouldn't be good camper names, but they might get a few chuckles going down the road. :)
Most likely will name it Gracie after a dog we gave away last year.

We've contemplated " Never Finished " due to the fact, that our previous pop up, I modified so heavily that even the guy that eventually bought it called months later and said as much as he wanted to "modify" something (he was a fixer like me"there was nothing left to modify. I told him that to a true tinkerer, "It's Never Finished", don't give up, he'd come up with something. (Still to this day, he has not 4 years later) :confused:

My wife brought up that story when we bought this one...she said like the popup, this one will be "Never Finished" in my mind.:cool: She also mentioned we should call it "Construction Site" or "Men at Work" . We haven't decided....

I have not named my truck, but the trailer is called Cubie. The name comes from the model, 202 QBWE (Queen Bed Western Edition). I have never named a car or truck, and since we have had at least one car but only one truck for many years it's easy to just refer to it as "the truck."

Our truck is named Big Black and the trailer is The Beast. Our truck is a black Ram so the name seemed to fit (It is not meant to be derogatory at all). Trailer is The Beast because it is about 10 feet longer than our last trailer.

I love everyone's names and why they chose them.

The DW is a Southern Girl and wanted all the rigs to be Belle (part of her family nickname). Since they will all be travelling, they are Gypsy's. The 5er is the 3rd unit we've owned, hence the III. That is how we got to "the gypsy, Belle III."

Wilson was the volleyball's name in Castaway and yes, I have one of those as the antenna topper. The same as the 5er, third unit to carry the antenna topper.

We named ours "Cougar One" This is because we travel with two other campers and we all bought our TT within about one year of each other. We bought ours first, then when the other two bought theirs, all the same make and model we thought it would be fun to name them, "Cougar One, Cougar Two, and Cougar Three.

We just got back from a week long trip to "Lake of the Woods" near Klamath Falls. Now we have yet a fourth person who told us he is trading his trailer for the same make and model as the three of us, sounds like "Cougar Four" is soon to be named.

We don't call ours anything other then "The Cougar" :whistling:....

But, we do name all of our vehicles....

My last truck/tow rig, a 2009 Chevy Silverado 2500HD 6.0V8 CCSB LT 4x4 (Color: All Black) was nicknamed "Big Bessy" by the kids.... like a big beefy angus heifer (cow). My barber called it "The Urban Assault Vehicle".

My "new" truck a 2015 RAM 3500 6.7 Cummins Laramie CCSB 4x4 (Color: Blue Streak) has been nicknamed "Babe the Blue Ox".... As being from Minnesota and owning a Red Flannel work jacket, and the land of Paul Bunyan (& Babe the Blue Ox) the name was born!
