Barker Electric Tongue Jack [Archive]

2012 Passport 2650 BH not in yet but I want to get an electric tongue jack and believe I want a Barker brand but not sure which model I need . Passport weighs just shy of 5000 pounds dry.

I added the Barker vip 3500. The white is turning yellow:( I believe the main difference is the diameter of the hole in your frame for the tongue jack. The 3000 is for a 2" outer post and vip 3500 is for a 2 1/4". But it sure beats the ol fashion method.

My future Passport weighs about 5000 pounds dry. Will this Barker VIP3500 be sufficient for this Passport?

It probably will be overkill, but you could never to get to big of a jack. You could take it off and put it on your bigger trade in:rofl:

You just want to make sure the hole is big enuff. You could hookup and take the old jack off to measure the hole, its only 3 bolts. The VIP 3000 will work for sure.

I would definitely go with the VIP 3500; we put one on our previous TT, Forest River SV263 and it was perfect. It was fairly quiet and very fast and reliable. Not nearly as happy with the jack that came on our Keystone Premier.

Any thoughts on the Bulldog 4000 electric jack . I noticed it has a 5 year warranty vs the 2 year warranty for Barker.

I am not familiar with the Bulldog brand, but would not make a decision based on the "5 year warranty". For quality products, defects will become apparent during the first year. My Springdale came with the 3500# Lippert. After 14 months of use it is still sound mechanically but the flimsy plastic cover is already faded and breaking in several places. My favorite is the Atwood Heavy Duty; 3500#, 19" lift, 15" per minute speed, 2 year warranty, around $240 on-line. The motor unit is the same used in most truck camper jacks. I had one for almost 8 years with no issues whatsoever. I am sorry I left it when trading-in for the Springdale.

You only need to worry about the tongue weight not the entire trailer. Which is probably around 600lbs. When we had one on our TT, I had a ultrafab, Nice low cost, and had a adjustable foot. It had a 3500 spec.

I also have this unit bought it on ebay new for about 100.00$$ works great so far.

Good support too, I raised it up to far and broke the shear pin. They sent me a new for free.

The Atwood and Barker models use a clutch instead of a shearing pin. If you go too far, you will hear a clicking noise telling you to stop, no damage done. The Barker deluxe now has limit switches that automatically stop the jack when it reaches its min/max.

Only if you don't have a WD system. If you have a WD system and use the jack to lift the tongue to snap up the bars, you will be lifting far more than the tongue weight, closer to tongue + WD bar force.

that said, I have a Barker 3000 on one trailer and a Atwood on another. Both do a great job, reliable, but the Barker is definitely quiter than the Atwood.

Which Barker would you all suggest for a 3700 dry weight camper, 5800 gross.
I will be using WDH with it and am new to using those. 3000 or VIP 3500?
