Has anyone added a 12v ceiling fan to their trailer? I've been looking at one like this (http://www.adventurerv.net/ceiling-fan-12v-speeds-volt-camper-p-1566.html) to put in the kitchen area of our 5er. There is a 12v ceiling light there that we really don't use because it is so hard to reach due to how high the ceiling is at that point (would have been nice if they added a wall switch for it!). I have to take some measurements to make sure it would clear the cabinets, but I think it would be a nice addition. The ceiling fans in our house are on pretty much 24/7.

What I'm not sure about is how exactly it would mount to the ceiling and if there would be enough support for it, both while it is running and while we are towing. Thoughts? Experiences?

If you look at your ceiling really carefully, you will spot rows of regular little tiny spots that are maybe 8" apart or so. The rows will be 16 or 24 inches apart, and run from side to side on your trailer. Those are little spots of some kind of filler material which are covering up staples. The staples hold the ceiling material to the ceiling joists.

Just like in our homes, if you can get a couple of fairly long mounting screws through the base of the fan and into one of those joists, your fan will be quite securely fastened in place.

The installation instructions that come with the fan may have even more information for you.

If properly installed, there is nothing to worry about in transit.

The ceiling light that is presently there may not be mounted directly onto one of the joists. Not really a problem as you can easily fish your wire from the mounting location of the fan to the light. Either leave the light in place or get a blank cover plate from the electrical aisle at any home improvement center to cover the hole where the light was mounted.

Thanks for the info! We'll have to do some closer investigating/measuring when we are out next weekend for what will probably be our final trip of the year. Might be a good project to tackle over the winter!
