I see this all the time RV's parked at the campground with their running lights on while unhitched. Does anyone know how they do it?

Why would you want to do it if Keystone puts security lights on their trailers?
My Outback has one on each side.

"they" jumper a couple of pins in the trailer plug - from B+ to marker lights (google it for the actual pins - I don't have the reference right now). Others even stick a flasher unit in the pins to blink them.
the bigger question I have to ask is not "how they do it" but "why" ? :D

I made one of these, but only for doing maintenance checks on lights. ...... If they run their engines the neighbors will think they spent the night in a rest area.

I had a confused look on my face for about 15 seconds and then busted out laughing. I got it, it took me a little longer but I got :)

I do this on occasion. Why? Because I think it looks cool. ;) And this is why we have chocolate and vanilla.
How do I do it? With a 5 amp blade fuse. Just insert it between pins 3 and 4 (http://http://www.chuckschevytruckpages.com/trailerlights.html).

I tried doing it on my 2009 Outback and it didn't work. No idea why not.

My bad. It should be between pins 3 & 4. Sorry. I just look at it and know where it goes.
