View Full Version : Recall - frame flexing problem

i have a recall for frame flexing and they say cross bracing will be added . can anyone describe what will actually be done and where bracing is added, how is it done if on axles , do axles get removed and replaced . is this something that can be done in trailer park on good crushed base for jacking

Welcome to the forum canadian.

What model is your trailer??... is it (for example) an Alpine, or a Raptor, or... ??

If you can provide a bit more info, maybe someone here knows more about the problem.

I don't know the specifics of the repair, but with the frame involved it may involve some type of welding. First, you'll have to contact your Keystone dealer, and then make arrangements with them. Typically you take the trailer to the dealer to have the work done.

Just a heads up my 2010 Keystone Alpine was just purchased back by Keystone because of flexing which caused my drivers side sidewall to separate from the frame in the front area by the overhang. It was taken back to Keystone in november to be repaired and on the 1st trip out for easter it separated again. Keystone engineers looked at the photos and deemed it could not be repaired permanently so Keystone purchased it back and is now building me a 2012 Alpine that is due to be completed May 11 and delivered to my dealer for pick up. So it looks like the flexing issue is not limited to the Montana. Good luck anyone that is having similar issues.

It is a Keytone Montana 3750FL . from what i can tell it will be something added to the axle area

to Canadian - we experienced a frame problem on our trip north from Florida in mid May. We blew the right forward tire on our 2007 Everest 5th wheel - 29.5'. The repair shop showed us cracks behind the wheel just above the bracket that holds the leaf springs in place at the axle. We traveled a couple hundred miles after the tire change, checked the frame and found that they had widened a great deal. Not quite certain that we should travel further with this serious situation, we were able to find a reputable machine/welding shop that works primarily on semis and large construction trucks. He showed us where the bracket was already bent in at a 25-30% angle and that the one on the left side of the axle was also bent in, but not to such an angle and no stress cracks on left side. They welded the cracks, placed another steel piece over the stressed areas on both sides, straightened out the brackets and ran a supporting rod along side of the axle & welded so that the brackets would not bend in again.
We have just returned to northern Maine - Presque Isle. We have not requested warranty from Keystone as had no idea this was possibly a warranty issue until the welder said that the frame was not the strongest of metals that he usually dealt with, hence his attempt to re- secure everything with plates and the steadying rod running from each side alongside the axle.
If you are interested in checking out our repair, pls let us know. We are in PI until late Aug - not too distant from Frederickton.
With the information due to your post, perhaps we will be able to get some recompense from Keystone, tho we did go ahead with repairs ourselves as we were on a timed arrival time in northern Maine.

I just read LI happy ampers thread.
I have a 2010 3450 Alpine that just went back to the factory same thing
only my hitch moves up and down about 4 inches when hooking up to truck
along with the wall moving up and down about a 1/2 inch.
Soooo. will see.

No recall.
I seen the hitch move up down when I hooked up
and unhooked. sooo. back to the factory It went.
thair going to put in the factory june 12th.
I'll keep an update on it.

hi all sorry turned in the paper work. it is a limited recall i too own a 3750fl. the brace is attached between the frame rails above the axels to stiffin it. it only takes about an hour to do.could it be done with out jacking it. i belive it can so if the dealer will come to you great.it seems the issue is when the trailer is apporching a 80+turn esp. when backing. this is when the frame flex's. i do this everytime i pull into my driveway.mine was done last year so a quick call to keystone should answer any questions about what campers are involved.my dealer said at the time they had not seen any with damage but... why risk it :)

We have a 2010 Alpine 3540 RL manufactured March 2010. We recently noticed trim separation on both the right and left side of the nose cone area and excessive flexing and separation when hitching up; yet appears to 'close up' when all the weight is on the front leveling jacks. Interior has seen a good deal of separation in the bedroom closet, the cabinets pulled out of the walls and the cedar planks have come off. Unit is now at dealer and I am long-awaiting instructions from Keystone as to what to do next.

Does not appear to be related to the frame recall since is was manufactured earlier than the recall date.

If anyone else (other than what has already been posted) is having similar problems I would be interested in hearing your symptoms and experiences.

i have a 2010 alpine 3500 re and im experiencing the same issues as the last post. just wounder what the out come was your trailer since im just starting to talk to keystone about it.

No Alpine here but our 2012 Montana has the same frame flex problem and the front cabinets are coming apart as well. It is going in sometime this month to hopefully correct this problem and other warranty issues. Amazing why Lippert is still building frames that keep having issues. If you Google Alpine Frame flex or Montana Frame Flex or for that matter alot of other RV manufacturers, it is a whole industry problem, I think manley Lippert................Ron

I am having the same issues with my Alpine 3640. Called Keystone CS this morning and she took my info and said an adviser would call me back. It is now 8pm in Goshen and no one has called.

When I hook and unhook from my Fuzion, it flexes a considerable amount,...not 4 inches like yours, but much more than any of my two previous toyhaulers did, and they didn't flex at all.

Does anyone have a photo of what this looks like? I was reading through this today on my break and I have a similar problem on a 2011 Alpine 3450RL. Sort of concerned at this point. This started in May of this year, 2014
