We have always brought along a dog. A big one. Over the years we have brought along several different varieties. Currently, we have an almost 7 year old Golden Retriever. One with "attitude" I might add.
I don't want to start something here but I can blame this one on my wife who says...."If it doesn't weigh at least 25 pounds, it really isn't a dog." And, as I always do, I totally agree with her. Richard

We always travel with our "wonder dog" Lilly and our four pound 13 year old cat, Lydia. Lydia is a pure indoor cat (she would not last at 4 pounds in the outside world). Both are great travelers and have been on the road with us since they were very young.

We can't go anywhere in the camper without "Bo" our long hair chiwawa. He's a total Chick Magnet. Yep, they the ladies can't pass him by.

Our 12 year old beagle, Mickey, loves camping and has travelled all over the east coast with us. He's on the chubby side, now, at 30lbs - guess he qualifies as a "real dog" by Richard's wife's standards.;)

Two of our dogs together weigh 25lbs does that count? We have six dogs we take camping, Missy, Dusty, Sassy, Jasmine, MoJo and Scooter. Pom-Bosten Terrior mix, Pom, Pom, Pom, Poodle, and a Yorkie Poo.

Yes ftwildernessguy, Mickey meets my wife's criteria and is a "bone-a-fide" dog - providing he remains chubby and his weight stays above 25 lbs. Keep up with the treats.
Sorry grumpy, you can't combine weights of two dogs but she likes the names of these two........"MoJo and Scooter". (The truck and 5th look great when hooked up!)

We take our 11 year old Cocker (Lady) with us. She loves to travel and is really a good dog. She has one problem and that is she doesn't like to be left alone.

I have two Belgian Tevurens. One is 88 lbs and the other 92 lbs. We've never had a problem camping, but now I see some campgrounds/parks are placing a weight limit on the dogs. Both are very docile dogs. What next...a weight limit on the owners?

We have a Black Lab/Pitt mix. He's all black and looks mostly like a lab. He goes with us every time we camp. He is two years old. On Fridays when we get home and start throwing things out the front door in the direction of the truck to load up, Harley {the dog} gets his toy in his mouth and knows where we are going.

I don't like dogs, so I'm planning to bring my cat instead. :D
I'm a feline lover and cats are easier to 'tame' during vacations. Hopefully, my cat won't run away.

2 year old Mystery Mutt - Arlo, resident snuggle bug

We bring along our 4 year old Golden/Basset mix, Ella. She weighs 70 lbs and is fit as a fiddle. She loves to be a lap dog but at that weight she doesn't get to stay long.

We have a jack Russel named BREE.wonderful little dog. Have trouble trusting her in the camper when we are gone, She does good at home ,but in the camper she chewed up curtain once ,and since then we keep her in dog carrier . I hate doing that It seems kind of cruel being she has 480 acres to call her yard at home. Does anyone have any comments on how long is humane to keep in carrier.

Charlie,

Crating dogs for short periods of time is fairly common now, but I don't know that I've ever heard of a "specific" time limit - for example: "2 hrs max, 3 hrs max", etc.

I'd suggest contacting your vet's office - they may be able to give you some guidelines, OR they may be able to recommend another client/dog owner (or local dog groomer or reputable breeder) who is familiar with crate training.

In the meantime, check your private msg's - I sent some video clips & websites that may be helpful & answer some of your questions.

Terri, the Chevy co-pilot :)

We're full timing and have 4 cats living with us or maybe it would be more correct to say we have 4 cats that allow us to live with them.

After many years, and six German Shepherds (several were rescues), we decided to go rescue a LITTLE dog after our last most beloved German Sheherd passed away at 15 1/2. We hit all the shelters within 60 miles or so, and finally found just the right little dog. At least he is little compared to German Shepherds.

We now travel with a lovely red tricolor Australian Shepherd. At just under 60 pounds, he is a little darling, and travels very well.

Awesome picture and awesome dogs!!

(Moderator's Note:
Lucy, Ethel and Fred are awesome dogs. However, this will be their 3rd photo op in this thread and we do not want the other pet owner's complaining that their pooches are not getting the same exposure on the forum. Perhaps we can refrain from posting any further photos of the three Basset Hounds. I am sure Houndie Dog will not be too upset).

What is the fascination between dogs and cow poop?

Especially when it is below freezing outside and you still gotta wash them.

Howdy All;

Last month he opted for attempting to sneak up behind a skunk.....

10:45 PM. doin' last out for the night. Temp. was in the teens. ouside "shower" was still winterized... he got an indoor shower. Plenty of Dawn and rinsed with Downey. Worked better than trying to find a coupla gallons of tomato juice. EVERYTHING (including the local Wal-Mart), is closed bt 10:00 PM. Welcome to Central Utah...

I use this stuff (http://www.sitstay.com/dog/supplies/servlet/product_10001_10001_41426_-1_Skunk+Free%2C+12+oz._59402_59407_) for all the smells my dogs get into. Whether skunks or raccoon poop, it gets the smell off. I always keep a bottle or two in the trailer.

Have two toy poodles, Beaux and Zeaux (they are Louisiana Poodles). Together they might make ten pounds so I guess they don't qualify for dogs. They DO love camping tho. Because they're Poods they don't shead and grounds cleanup is a chinch. Camping wouldn't be the same without "Poodle Team Six"... Travel well..
