I just recently purchased a used 2003 Cougar 245 5th wheel and changed out the tires for safety and peace of mind and have not used yet. There was a mixed set of worn 205/R75/15 load range C tires and I replaced with Goodyear Marathons 225/R75/15 load range D which are bigger. The increased size fit though with not a lot of room to spare, especially on the top. Nothing rubbing now. Have any thoughts, suggestions, comments? Does anyone think this presents any concerns? Thanks.

Picture? Not a lot of room to spare? Measurement and picture would help.

I believe if you would surf the net a little you would find you're answer. I went o0ne size bigger that was a few years ago and I think what the conclusion was that there should be a 4" clearance between top of tire and the wheel well.

Dexter recommends a minimum of 3". Here's a link.

You should verify that the wheels on your RV are rated high enough to support the air pressure required with your new tires. Some 6"x15" 5 lug wheels are rated at 50 PSI and are used with the 205 75R15 LRC tires (50PSI) and won't support the 65PSI of the LRD tires. Yours may, or they may not, I'd doublecheck to be sure. The load rating and max PSI should be stamped on the back of a wheel spoke or possibly on the wheel lip, inside the tire.

I just went from 205 75 R 14 to 205 75 RH 15. Had to get new wheels of course (steel). Did 2000 mile trip last week and they worked great! Felt a lot better with a bit larger tire and higher load rating. I agree, trailer manufacturers seem to rig it to put barely adequate tires on as OEM
