Well.... the DW and I are ready to find our Cougar 318SAB. Since we are retired, we can travel anywhere in the U.S. to get it.

Of course, I want to get it for the best price possible. I have seen two Cougar Dealers that have low prices. Genuine RV in Nacogdoches, TX and Sirpilla RV in Akron, Ohio.

Does anyone out there have any others they know of?

Thanks for your help.

I purchased mine from Pontiac RV in Pontiac IL. They provided me with free slide toppers on all three slides when purchasing the 318SAB in Feb of 10. Plus a great price, I would not look at their Internet price since my cost was lower then the Internet price listed. This was before the trade in was considered for the purchase.
A great team to work with and after purchasing they provide a 10% discount for one year in their parts store believe me I thought that I did not need anything more since I was trading in one 5er for another. But after I and DW went through their store we spent additional $500 to get this 5er ready for camping.

Here's a link for a 318SAB in Portland, OR. http://www.curtistrailers.com/inventory/rvlisting/detail/1757/ He says like new but how used can a 2011 be? Price advertised is $32,103 it's a long way to go from NJ.

Thanks for your input.
Oregon is kinda far. I'd prefer not going that far if I don't have to.

Phil,

The first 2 dealers listed (Anthony & Sweetwater) have good reputations in this area, but I don't know how their prices would compare to those dealers closer to NJ. In addition to Genuine RV (Nacogdoches), there's also RV Station (Nacogdoches + 3 locations) rvstationonline.com and Orangewood RV in AZ http://www.orangewoodrv.com who also sell Cougar.

The others listed below were on http://www.keystonervsource.com

Hope this helps... and happy shopping!

When you are purchasing your 5er, keep in mind that you are likely going to bring it back to your dealer to fix problems that were not discovered during the walk-through. Some dealers will not honor your warranty if you did not purchase your RV from them. In my experience, some defects did not become evident for several weeks. Dealer reputation is everything - check out consumer reviews on the Internet. Just be careful!!

Which dealer's reputation is important to check out? The far away dealer that you probably won't travel back to for repairs anyway? Or the local dealer that doesn't care enough about the entire RV industry to work on other rigs? If the local dealer is that short-sighted, I'm not sure I would want to be his "loyal customer" anyway. If you do a lot of long distance RVing, chances are when there is a problem you won't be near the local dealer anyway. I understand that warranty work may not be 100% reimbursed by the factory, but that will be true regardless of where the unit was originally purchased. If the dealer is taking a loss on warranty work for his "loyal customers" but unwilling to treat all customers the same, then how honest and dependable is that dealer anyway?

I would like to add Petes RV Schererville, In(Scott). I saved $6000 over best price in Pgh. Another Montreal Canadian I met there said he saved $30000 on his big rig he was picking up same day as I was my rig. The 5 hour drive was worth it and I got $600 more for my trade than here.
Had problem from local dealer mad I did not buy it from him and said I was on the bottom of list for service, if needed! Only draw back for saving $6,000 and gettuing $600 more for my Heartland trade! Customer Service at Keystone has abandoned me as said by some others here SOL!

My dealer had me stay there 2 days in it on his lot to check things out! 4 things were noted all corrected next day. Last item 4 booklets not in coach resolved between me and him except AC manual. Been with C.S. sent wrong book and Dometic phone and on line; dealer was called by Keystone C.S. and he checked 5 other units none had info in them.
C.S. won't talk with me and dealer never received the manual he ordered the day I left the lot (2 months ago). SOL!

True here, too. Local dealer does not HAVE to honor other dealer purchase; verified by Keystone C.S. NOT true with autos and most other products. As I said another place he flat out said I was on the bottom of his list if I bring it to him for service. It may sit a good while. Keystone should require all sales dealers to honor warranty, as they are the ones paying for it! I did not expect that when I bought the unit out of state.

CPE:
I believe you have already written about (in previous posts) your problems that you are having with Keystone Customer Service in regards to your User Manuals and other booklets. You have already mentioned about your being "at the bottom of the list" with regards to warranty work with this particular dealer.
You have made us aware of these problems and we all hope that they can be resolved to your satisfaction. Rather than repeating these same issues in your future posts, perhaps you have some other issues, concerns, or helpful and constructive suggestions for our members??????

I do indeed ! GOODBYE!
Nothing is resolved here or will be with most Keystone issues! Good place to B.S. though. Not a place for facts just relate experiences and interpretations. I say that sincerely as C.S. from Keystone is as stated by many others here.
I say that as a Reg Prof Eng for 45 years I don't use or sell to customers any service that is regular engineering or frequently engineered. I do not buy the 2 different stories on slides from Keystone & Lippert open to interpretation and what about when stored-- same slides need regular exercise for lubrication , etc as stated by a few others.
By the way read a few other of my posts and not one for your opinions. Emergency exits seems important to me and helpful to others!
Thanks for everything to date.

My local dealer handled our warranty problems without any questions. Our dealer set it up and the local took the cash for the repairs. Everybody was happy.

Pete's in Vermont and Indiana has a good reputation. I've talked to them on the phone and would definitely consider them if I was willing to travel to get it. Their website is nicely set up so you can see what they have.

When I bought my 2010 Sydney fiver, I used pricing from Pete's Rv in VT as a bartering tool (lowest internet price I could find). My local CW dealer matched it plus $500. Good deal considering I didn't have to go 400 miles to get it.
Food for thought.

I had good dealings with Beckley's RV in Thurmont, Md on my Raptor. They also sell Cougars. Their price to me was on par with the Wholesalers in the Midwest (after I beat on them). They have a very nice dealership and super nice staff.

just remember-

lowest price does not = best service.

there are a lot less complaints about price in these forums than service. Look for a good dealer- in the end you will be happier.
