Adding a 2nd A/C

Hello everyone. I want to add a 2nd a/c on top of my 31ft Raptor. Too damn hot here in Florida. There is a roof vent over my master bed. There is a plug receptical about 3ft away that doesn't get use. NOW, is this feasible? Am I on the right track or am I missing something? Are these toyhaulers pre wired for a 2nd a/c? I'm pretty handy and this isn't out of the scope for me to due, just want to check with the pro's before I go spending money. Thanks.

Is it 50 amp? We have the same vent in the bedroom, but there is a sticker that says this has been pre-wired for a second ac. Also there will be another breaker on you panel that should say 2nd ac. At least thats the way it is on our new cougar.

Yeah, its a 50 amp. Where was this sticker located? Sure would make things nice if it was pre-wired.

Our experience has been exactly as kenn209 answered, but curiosity got the best of me. ;) I did a quick search & found the following info/brochures... apparently Raptor's come standard with 50 amp service and "fifth wheels" are also pre-wired/framed for the 2nd A/C.

If pre-wired, the sticker is typically located in/around the overhead vent in the bedroom.

The best that I can figure out looking at the 2007 brochure is that a 3110T is a TT and not a 5ver and if this is true then the pre-wire for the 2nd AC does not apply to the TT although it is 50amp service.

Yeah guys, its a TT and not a fifth wheel. Question now is, can I just remove the vent over my bed and install a unit? Are the cut outs the same size? Are they framed any different? I would have to check the circuit that I tie into and make sure its 20 amp and nothing else is tied into it. If so, will it hurt the unit being on a slight angle because of the slope of the roof? Thanks guys!

The A/C units on 5th wheels are all pretty much mounted at a slight angle due to the slope of the roof and they all seem to work mounted that way. It should not present any problem with the operation of your A/C - provided you can work out the wiring and installation issues.

Normally with 50amp service, which is 220v service, half of the 50amp 220v breaker feeds the entire TT as 50amp 110v and the other half has nothing wired to it because it's reserved for the second AC unit (if the trailer has a washer and dryer then they would also feed from this side except that the dryer would feed from both sides because it needs 220v), so there should be no breakers installed for the second AC side (normally there would be a 20amp breaker which feeds from the 2nd AC side of the 50amp main breaker) It's from this 20amp breaker that #12 wire is run to the 2nd AC unit. I don't know how or if you can conceal the wire somehow in the walls or by going under the TT with wire loom and up to the converter and up to the ac unit), this leaves us with “is the hole big enough to fit the AC unit" question? Here's a manual for the typical Dometic 13.5K unit which has the dimensions for the hole in the roof: http://eaa1358.com/Passport/Air%20Conditioning/579%20Series%20AC%20(2).pdf Looks like it's designed to fit into a standard 14 X 14 inch vent hole, now the only question is "is the hole reinforced enough to carry the load of the unit?" I would ask Keystone if they put enough reinforcement at that point to install the second AC unit there when the trailer was manufactured. My best guess is that they did.
