new to the forum. not new to RVing (formerly 2 motorhomes, now Cougar 27RKS) AND we RV around Texas...not many of us Texans on the site, it appears! Just got back from our 2nd trip in the Cougar. Went to Canyon of the Eagles, a LCRA "resort" (expensive for us) run by concessionaires. The resort is nice, with cabins a pretty good restaurant and beautiful views of Lake Buchanan near Burnet TX. There is an RV park just down the hill a short way from the resort. It was OK, but not sure we'll go again. Not allowed to use the pool at the resort (but allowed to spend $$ at the restaurant) and the lake access for swimming was VERY limited--summer in TX near a lake and can't get in??; there was a very nice amateur celestial observatory on the property that was a highlight. As for the RV park itself, spaces were ~ $23 per night PLUS $4/day/person use fee! sites were narrow, not level, views of lake VERY limited. So, our next trip (from San Antonio) in this direction will be Ink Lake St Park..been there before...good lake access and views!

WOW......

Why don't they just add in their 'fees' to the price of the RV Site so you can do everything they have to offer?

I won't use those places if possible, and certainly wouldn't go back -
just my humble opinion!

Welcome to the forum jpatt,

We're not from Texas but only 65 miles away, in SE New Mexico. Hill Country is one of our favorite TX destinations, and we've also been to Inks Lake SP and the Buchanan Lake area. We prefer State Parks, but did stayed at Big Chief RV a couple of years ago. It was a nice park, with a very pretty (natural stone) swimming pool & hot tub/jacuzzi, and also right on the lake. I think they have a Burnet address, but it's just northwest of Buchanan Dam off of Hwy 29... if you're in that area again & need an option.

PS... my in-laws are 'Winter Texans' - from Indiana ;)
